Maryam Moghadam is a Naarm based furniture designer and maker specialising in work that evokes a sense of play. Maryam is motivated by the recognition that furniture design can be a practice with design goals beyond aesthetics and function; that the discipline can be a vehicle provoking questions about the current status quo and materialising solutions through the medium of functional furniture.

Cheeky

Cheeky

“Cheeky” stools reconcile humour with functional design in pursuit of creating playful, engaging and amusing user experiences. Although a sense of humour promotes wellbeing and human connection, it is very seldom that furniture is specifically designed to be humorous without a compromise to functionality.  While Cheeky attempts to awaken playfulness, it simultaneously promotes a space of inclusivity and unity through its representation of various “skin colours” which make up the collection. Cheeky features a removable, upholstered cushion bolted to a powdercoated aluminium frame, allowing the ability to re-upholster and re-powdercoat for repair or colour change. The cushion-less Cheeky is multi-functional and suitable for outdoor environments.

A comfortable stool, a universally funny ice-breaker, a compelling social comment; Cheeky evokes an array of emotional responses essential in fostering meaningful and memorable interactions.
