Ethereal Solas

Materials: Pinewood Timber Panel, Reclaimed Sheer Polyester, LED

Ethereal Solas is an interactive cascading light that captures the organic rhythms of time from the natural world bringing it into the public realm. Through computer numerical control (CNC) and hand-made elements the undulating timber body follows the natural linework on trees, considering how growth and decay are held within the object alike the tactile marks of the maker. Different light values are achieved through adjusting the position of the fabric curtains, allowing the user to interact with the object and alter the ambience of the space in which it inhabits, further reconnecting people with the environment.
